My family's journey to the United States began with their escape from the Bolshevik Revolution and the subsequent Soviet invasion of Europe. After arriving in New England, my grandfather Alexis and his brother Yuri (my namesake) established a ski equipment business that popularized winter sports in North America. This entrepreneurial spirit laid the foundation for our family's future endeavors.
Continuing the family tradition of seeking opportunities, my parents, after meeting and exchanging vows, ventured west for better job prospects. In this new chapter, my mother worked as an esthetician, while my father served as an engineer for the Washington State Ferries. During the mid-1990s, I entered the picture as their only child. My parents were fortunate enough to send me to a Catholic school, where I formed friendships that endure to this day.
As the years passed, I grew increasingly disillusioned with the American education system and chose not to attend university. Instead, I followed in my father’s footsteps, deciding to pursue a life at sea. In 2017, I joined the U.S. Coast Guard. After completing boot camp, I was assigned to a surf station on the Oregon coast, where I underwent Search and Rescue training as a crew member on a 47’ MLB (Motor Lifeboat), designed to endure hurricane-force winds and 20’ seas.
My intense year at the station ended abruptly when I secured a spot at Operations Specialist 'A' School. Excitedly packing my bags, I headed to Petaluma, California, oblivious to the fact that among my soon-to-be classmates awaited my future wife, Morgan. When our graduation date approached, we were devastated to learn that we would soon be sent to opposite ends of the country.
As a Petty Officer, patrolling the East Pacific for counter-narcotics operations, I found myself with a significant amount of downtime, sparking my interest in real estate. I delved into numerous books on the subject during my years at sea. Little did I know then, I was embarking on the initial steps toward a new career. Throughout the remainder of my time on the cutter, I played a direct role in seizing nearly one billion dollars' worth of contraband, earning multiple qualifications and awards in the process.
The culmination of my military service coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, making the transition to civilian life especially challenging. Facing desperation, I made the tough decision to auction off a gold medal that had been in my family’s possession since the mid-1800s. The funds from the sale provided me with the means to pursue my passion in real estate. Today, my business flourishes, and as you read this, you might be the next client wondering about the story behind the letter in your hands.
